How I Felt on the Stage: The Writings of My Story

How I Felt on the Stage: The Writings of My Story

As I shook hands with the Vice Chancellor and made my way down the stairs, I heard someone screaming—it was my mom. I turned to embrace her, overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. At that moment, something remarkable happened: the Vice Chancellor invited her to come up on stage as well.

I will never forget the look in her eyes—pure happiness and disbelief. She was living a moment she had never imagined possible in her lifetime. As she climbed the stage, she knelt before the dignitaries. Maybe it was humility, or perhaps she felt deeply privileged to stand alongside scholars and professors on that platform. Whatever it was, it was a moment I will forever cherish.

The Vice Chancellor’s gesture to my mom is something I will remain eternally grateful for.

Seeing my mom in that state brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t help but reflect on everything she has endured. Since losing my dad, the weight of our family’s financial burdens—school fees, daily needs, and more—has fallen entirely on her shoulders.

God bless my mom.

God bless every mother who, like her, has courageously taken on the responsibilities of the home.

To my mentors, families, friends and colleagues, thank you for your guidance and support. You played a significant role in making this moment a reality, and I am forever grateful.
