BABY BORN WITH THE TONGUE OF AN ADULT, SMILES FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER SURGERY

A toddler, Paisley Morrison-Johnson was born with the tongue of an adult and doctors have confirmed she has a rare condition which makes the tongue grow twice the size of the month, she had a surgical procedure to correct the condition, her first smile after the surgery is pictured.

Doctors diagnosed her with Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) an overgrowth that affects one in every 11,000 births world wide, the condition was so sad that after the surgeon cut away some part of the tongue, it still grew back and covered her mouth.

Due to Paisley’s condition she needed a breathing apparatus for the first week after birth to stop her from chocking to death, she was fed with a gastronomy tube until she was 6 months old. Her parents Madison Kienow, 21, and Shannon Morrison Johnson ,23, were worried because after the first surgery it looked like her tongue had grown back to its original size it was after the second surgery that her tongue could fit in her mouth and she was able to smile and eat normally, she was on her way to saying her first words which she couldn’t do before her surgery. Her mum was happy at the outcome of the surgery, she said;
“Her tongue protruded out of her mouth and constantly stuck out, it looked like she was making silly faces. Quite often, strangers would stare at her and some would make comments. Since recovering she smiled often, I couldn't believe it and was shocked by how beautiful my girl looked."
